KoRn’S Brian ‘Head’ Welch to speak at Crossroads

Brian “Head” Welch, a founding member and guitarist of metal band KoRn, will be speaking twice at Crossroads Church this weekend. Welch will be part of the live Sunday services at 8:30, 10, and 11:45 a.m. at Crossroads Oakley on July 11. He will also speak following a screening of his film, Loud Krazy Love, at 6:30 p.m. at Crossroads Florence that evening. Welch became a global rockstar as a pioneer with KoRn in the early 1990s. Fame and wealth were coupled with haunting self-loathing that began in adolescence and eventually gave way to a crystal meth addiction. Following his daughter Jennea’s birth, Welch chose to walkaway from a $23 million record contract to kick his drug habit and become a good father. During

that time he also developed a faith in God that guided his decisions going forward.

“I met Brian Head Welch when he was a guest on my podcast, and his interview was one of the most meaningful broadcasts I’ve ever done,” Crossroads Senior Pastor Brian Tome said. “Brian is living his life and doing some crazy aggressive stuff that his faith pushes him into. His most impressive accomplishment isn’t what he has done with KoRn, but the way he is exalting God where he is. We can all learn something from his story.”

Welch’s Sunday morning talks, “God Found Me in the Mix of Fame, Fatherhood, Heavy Metal and Meth,” will focus on how his faith developed amidst his rockstar status, while the film and Sunday night event will include more details of how Brian and Jennea grew together with courage and unconventional faith while dealing with teenage depression, the quest for identity, and the hope of a father willing to do anything for the daughter he loves.
