Joseph Michael Torok, Sr., age 83 of Georgetown, Ohio died Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born May 10, 1936 in Veszprem, Hungary. Joe is the beloved husband of Najia Torok; father of Mary Pope (Harold), J. Michael Torok (Lisa), Steve Torok (Kim), John Torok (Cami), Danni Cheng (Matthew) and Beini Stattery (Jim). Also survived by ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, which he was known to them as JoJo.

He grew up in Hungary during World War II.

He was conscripted into the Hungarian Army and was witness to the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 against the Russian occupation.

Joe, along with others of his military unit slipped into Austria during the dead of night risking capture and prison and was one of 38,000 Hungarian refugees who were openly welcomed to America.

Joe moved to Cincinnati and started work at AM Kinney as a draftsman where he would walk from work to take classes at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering, and after ten years of night school he earned a Civil Engineering degree and obtained his professional engineering license. After retiring from Belcan he moved to Georgetown, Ohio buying a fifty acre farm and starting his own engineering consulting business.

Not being content, he also began raising cattle and purchasing another fifty acres, and enhancing his now one hundred acre farm.

Joe was happiest in his home in Georgetown in the evening and on his back porch overlooking the river with his wife, Najia reflecting on their day on the farm. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Ohio Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care, dignity and compassion they provided Joe during the final months of his life.

Visitation for Joe was from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in the Norman Cemetery near Georgetown, Ohio.
