Sectional golf tournaments began over the last week, and a handful of Clermont County golfers are headed to the district tournament.

On the boys’ side, Felicity’s Nathan Peace placed 11th overall at the Division III sectional, held at Walden Ponds on September 25. Peace carded an 88, good for the second-lowest round among the individual qualifiers. Georgetown, Seven Hills, Cedarville and Middletown Christian advanced as teams.

Teammate Riley Pinger placed 20th overall, tied with Georgetown’s Kyle Cornette. Pinger shot a 100 in the tournament.

Two days later, a trio of CNE Lady Rockets advanced to the district tournament. Taylor Shumard shot a 99 to tie for ninth place overall, while teammate Hailey Stegemann’s 103 was good for 11th. Sadie Hoeppner defeated Middletown Christian’s Mae Heller in a one-hole playoff to clinch the fourth and final spot. Hoeppner and Heller tied at 105. As a team, CNE finished with a score of 439, one stroke behind Clinton-Massie for fourth place. The Lady Rockets were 15 strokes out of fourth place, which would have sent the entire team to districts.

The final local to advance to the district tournament was a freshman. Milford’s Adam Horn shot a 77, one stroke ahead of senior Justin Horn, to take the fourth and final qualifying spot at the Division I sectional at Vineyard.

Horn’s next round is October 11 at Beavercreek Golf Club. Peace competes at Beavercreek on October fourth, while CNE’s trio will be at Pipestone on October 3rd.
