On Wednesday, Sept. 27, blue corduroy jackets were zipped up early in the morning.
What for? In preparation for the 2017 Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference, often abbreviated OLLC. Five Felicity-Franklin FFA members and their advisor, Holly Jennings, traveled to the Ohio Statehouse to talk with state legislators and learn about lobbying for agricultural advocacy.
The day began with an activity to educate students about lobbyists. Afterwards, Felicity FFA members met with the state senator for their district—Joe Uecker. Mr. Uecker talked about everything from caucus to inspiration for new laws, and ate lunch with Felicity’s members.
During the luncheon, representatives from the ODA and ODNR spoke to the group of FFA members, as did state officers.
The day was certainly filled with learning, as well as forging a relationship with politicians to advocate for agriculture.
