Maggie Bierman and Lucas Herron were honored as October’s Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Batavia, Ohio.

Batavia Rotary chooses a Student of the Month from Clermont Northeastern (CNE) and Batavia High School (BHS) September through May of each school year. Students are chosen for their class work and volunteer hours that coincide with the Rotary motto “service above self.”

“Maggie is a fantastic young lady,” said CNE Principal T.J. Glassmeyer. “She is laying groundwork for a life of success.”

Bierman is a senior at CNE. She serves as president of the CNE Student Senate. She is also President of the Senior Class and National Honor Society. Bierman is a leader of her peers and truly cares about the CNE school district. Within her community, she is a volunteer with the Owensville Historical Society and is always willing to help others whenever she can.

After graduation, Bierman plans to attend Miami University and aspires to become a high school English teacher.

Herron is a senior at Batavia High School. He is class secretary, has participated in soccer and tennis, is a member of 4H and is a state woodworking winner. Herron is involved with the Science Challenge and got second place on the team. He is involved with the BHS Student Council and is an avid skier. Herron also participates in Batavia Interact, which is the Rotary program for high school students. He volunteers with his church, has been actively involved in East Fork clean up, and is a very busy peer tutor at school.

“Lucas works hard to help his classmates stay on track academically,” said Felicia Grooms, BHS Principal. “We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Lucas.”

Herron plans to attend the United States Naval Academy and would like to study mechanical engineering after serving in the military.

“You both have made your schools a better place,” said Ed Nurre, Batavia Rotary student of the month committee chair. “Talent is a gift, character is a choice. You have made that choice.”

The Batavia Rotary holds weekly meetings at the Hawk Building on the Clermont County Airport Campus. Meetings begin each Tuesday at 7 a.m. and are open to the public. For more information, visit www.batavia-rotary.org.
