The annual Clermont County Fair has just ended. Ruff n’ Stuff is the local 4-H club in the city of Milford. Because of the suburban zoning laws, most of the club’s members are unable to keep larger farm animals, but club member Grace Porter had an exciting opportunity this year at the fair. A family-friend living in Batavia offered to let Grace take care of one of their goats and show it at fair. Grace was excited to take care of her goat, Mavis, as she knew “We aren’t allowed to have them in our neighborhood.” Grace’s goat is a dairy goat more specifically a Saanen. Other types of dairy goats include: Alpine, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Oberhasli, Sable and Toggenburg many of which can be found at the Clermont County Fair. Grace and Mavis were able to take home a blue ribbon in showmanship, a great accomplishment for a first year goat shower.
