Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) believes that the youth of our county are the conservation stewards of the future!

This belief fuels the decision of our Board of Supervisors to offer two distinct scholarships annually to qualifying Warren County Students: The Thomas C. Spellmire Future Conservation Leader Scholarship and the Forestry & Wildlife Conservation Camp Award. It is our pleasure to announce the recipients of the 2016 Scholarships and Awards.

There are three recipients of this year’s Thomas C. Spellmire Future Conservation Leader Scholarship: Emilie Fisher (Clinton-Massie High School); Aaron Koch (Goshen High School) and Jaime Reeves (Waynesville High School). We would like to wish these scholarship winners the best of luck as they begin their college journey in the fall of 2016.

The Thomas C. Spellmire Future Conservation Leader Scholarship is awarded to a qualifying Warren County High School student who plans to enroll in a two or four-year undergraduate program in one of the following courses of study: natural resource management, agriculture, forestry, equine science, wildlife, geography, ecology, environmental science or other related fields of study.

Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District also wishes to extend congratulations to our Forestry & Wildlife Conservation Camp Award Winner Mitchell Stacey (Little Miami School District). Ohio Forestry & Wildlife Conservation Camp began in 1950. Since then, more than 10,000 high school students from all over Ohio have attended camp.

Camp is held at FFA Camp Muskingum, located on Leesville Lake in the beautiful rolling hills of Carroll County, Ohio. Any student who has completed 8th grade through seniors graduating the year of camp can look into this enrollment opportunity to participate in the forestry camp: http://www.ohioforest.org/?page=ForestryCamp.

The Warren County SWCD’s mission is to promote wise stewardship of our natural resources through cooperative partnerships, educational programs and technical assistance in land and water management.
