Six Batavia High School students recently attended the 2016 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Seniors Alex Young and Allie Murphy; along with juniors Garrett Kraus, Zach Newcomb, Sahil Patel and Dylan Young attended the conference. They participated in professional development, skills competition, and networked with students from several states.

The Batavia High School BPA Chapter received several national awards during the event; including Outstanding Achievement for Marketing and Public Relations, Outstanding Achievement for Special Olympics, Outstanding Achievement in Social Media, Outstanding Achievement in Community Service, and the Chapter of Excellence. Every student in the chapter helped earn this recognition. These young men and women set an example for all students to follow.

Six seniors also received Ambassador Torch Awards. The Torch Award program frames and guides a BPA member’s leadership and service to their chapter and community. The Ambassador Award is the highest honor. Alex Young and Allie Murphy were able to accept theirs in person. Sierra Fields, Carlee Armstrong, Rachel Spahr, and Hunter Watson also earned the award.

While in Boston the students had the opportunity to visit the aquarium, Harvard, and MIT. Chapter advisor Angie Kovacs said, “we were not able to raise enough money to do a lot while we were there so it is a good thing they all genuinely like spending time together. We shopped, played games, and did a lot of walking. It was a lesson in traveling on a tight budget!”

Members of the Batavia BPA Chapter are enrolled in the Legal Management and Support satellite program offered through Great Oaks Career Campuses.
