The Ohio State Highway Patrol made 9,091 seat belt citations in a joint effort with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project. The initiative began Monday, May 23 at 12:01 a.m. and ended Monday, May 30 at 11:59 p.m.

The Patrol also issued 181 child safety seat citations.

“If you are in a traffic crash, wearing a safety belt significantly increases your likelihood of survival,” said Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol superintendent. “That is why law enforcement officers in Ohio and beyond are dedicated to enforcing safety belt usage.”

This high-visibility enforcement effort included the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pennsylvania State Police and the West Virginia State Police.

Safety belt enforcement was the focus of this 6-State Trooper Project. Previous projects have focused on speed violations, impaired driving, distracted driving and illegal drug use.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
