Melanie Barton and Joshua Pollock were recognized as May Students of the Month on May 2 by the Rotary Club of Batavia.

Barton is a Batavia High School (BHS) senior where she has enjoyed playing flute in the concert and marching bands. She has been active with the BHS Interact Club, which is a Rotary Club for high school students.

She has served as President of Interact and has assisted the Batavia Rotary with their spaghetti dinner fundraiser. Barton has also been a representative for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards which is a leadership development program.

“Melanie never wants to be the center of attention,” said Felicia Grooms, BHS Principal. “She is more comfortable behind the scenes, but doing the bulk of the work for each event.”

Upon graduation, Barton will major in business management and marketing at Xavier University.

Pollock is a senior at Clermont Northeastern High School (CNE). He is a member of the Leo Club, which is a youth organization sponsored by the Lions Club.

He recently led a cleanup of the woods behind the school and did a fantastic job of encouraging other students to participate. Pollock is a member of the National Honor Society, participates on the CNE Tennis Team, and is leader of the trumpet section in the high school band.

“Josh is a tremendous young man who is hardworking and dedicated,” said TJ Glassmeyer, CNE High School Principal. “He always has a smile on his face, and we are truly lucky to have had Josh as a part of our school.”

Pollock will attend Berea College in the fall, majoring in general computer science.

“We honor you and thank you for your commitment,” said Ed Nurre, Student of the Month Chair for the Batavia Rotary. “You have taken the step to make your school and our community a better place for everyone.”

The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes one high school student from BHS and CNE each month throughout the regular school year. Regular meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m. at the Hawk Building on Taylor Road, Clermont County Airport. Prospective new members and visiting Rotarians are always welcome.
