Dear Editor,

‘Tis the season to enjoy springtime, to meet, greet , and eat with our friends and neighbors at a “community dinner” hosted by the Monroe Twp. Historic Society.

An annual event, it will be held on Thursday evening, April 28th at the historic Mt. Zion Church Annex, located on Clermontville-Laurel Road. An original one room school house, it was built in circa l869.

This year’s gathering will have a special focus on ‘law enforcement’ with Jason McElfresh, former State Trooper, to be honored. There will be door prizes and a donation box in appreciation for his service.

“We’re asking guests to bring a covered dish or two while the Historic Society will provide the drinks, as well as the paper and plastic wear,” says Tom Wildey, co-chair of the Board. This dinner begins at 6 p.m.

Of course we’ll have some historic displays and our main menu is the rich history and heritage we have here in Monroe Township, the birthplace of two famous Army generals, U.S. Grant and Henry Clark Corbin.
