Glen Este High School honored seven Trojan student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent or committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level at a ceremony held at the school on Wednesday, April 15.

Nathan Fischer, Sam Rowe, Zach Jeschke, Zach Vespie, Josh Bohart, Gage Branson and Ashley Collins were recognized amongst family, friends and Glen Este staff in the school’s East Café.

Athletic Director Dan Simmons emceed the event with Principal Bill Walker joining to give the student-athletes and parents a few words of advice from his experience as the father of a college student-athlete.

Fischer, a three-year varsity letterman for the Trojans, was the first to be acknowledged. The senior linebacker will be attending Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

Fischer was a key linebacker for the playoff-bound Glen Este squad. Appearing in every game, he racked up 5.5 sacks, which was tied for fifth-most in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. He also accounted for 52 tackles and was a Second Team All-ECC selection following his senior season.

Rowe, a two-sport fall season athlete, committed to Thomas More College in Northern Kentucky.

Rowe was a three-year varsity soccer letterman and a two-time varsity football letter earner for his role as kicker.

On the pitch, Rowe scored four goals and assisted on two others during his senior season.

On the gridiron, Rowe went 30-34 on extra points and 2-3 on field goals with a season-long of 39 yards.

Jeschke, an offensive lineman for head coach Nick Ayers’ Trojans football team, earned a full academic scholarship to compete and study at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio.

Jeschke was a four-year player for GE and a scholar athlete for the school each of those years. He was also a three-time ECC scholar athlete.

Vespie, a four-year football player, will join his teammate Fischer at Otterbein next fall. He has been a scholar athlete and a First Team All-ECC defensive lineman.

He will participate in the Ron Woyan East-West All Star Football Game on June 11 at Kings High School.

Bohart, a two-sport varsity athlete, will attend Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

He will play football for the Tigers, but Bohart is also the catcher for Glen Este’s baseball team.

He will have earned six varsity letters during his time in purple and white once the spring season comes to an end.

Bohart averaged more than six yards per carry last season from his fullback position, earning Second Team All-ECC honors and a spot in the Ron Woyan East-West All-Star Game.

Branson, the lone wrestler to be honored last week, committed to attend St. Catharine College in Springfield, Ky.

During his time at GE, Branson was a scholar athlete for the school and the ECC. He earned four letters wrestling and has been named to the First Team All-ECC three times.

Branson qualified for the state tournament twice during his tenure, including his senior season.

Finally, Collins, who was not present at the ceremony, has received a 30 percent scholarship to The Ohio State University to compete on the women’s rowing team.

Collins, also a Live Oaks student, carries a 3.971 grade point average.
