Dear Editor:

New Richmond School District is making up for the closing of the Beckjord Power Plant by giving employees raises and bonuses. At a special board meeting on Sept. 8, 2014 the board voted to approve raises for each of the next three years for some employees, bonuses for teachers and administrators, most received a check for $4,664. All of this totals nearly $700,000.00. “It’s 100% about the kids”. The district, as reported, will lose $1.7 million the first year in revenue due to the plant closing. N. R. teachers already are the highest paid in the county. According to the Ohio Dept. of Education student grades do not support this.

The NRVSD has over $20 million in savings, with zero debt, this ranks 40th out of over 600 public schools in Ohio. Are we being over taxed? Does the term ‘spend it or lose it ‘ come into mind? The school board meets the third Monday of each month. Watch the website [www.nrschools.org] as the board calls a lot of special meetings. You can call or Email each board member. Election for 2 positions will be this November.

This school board cannot fix the overspending problem, they are the problem.
