Union Township Trustees are working to improve ponds at the township parks this year.

Trustees approved a purchase order for pond dredging services for the pond at Clepper Park during their Sept. 25 meeting.

“The pond has not been dredged and is showing the effects,” Geis said during the meeting.

Geis said dredging the pond will correct a lot of the issues they have been having with algae and debris in the pond.

“I think it’s a worthwhile project,” he said.

Geis said Evans Landscaping came back with the most responsible proposal for completing the work.

He said they should be able to get the project started in the coming weeks.

Trustees approved a purchase order for Evans to complete the work for $24,925 during the meeting.

In addition to the improvements at Clepper Park, improvements were recently completed to the pond at Veterans’ Park in the township.

Trustees awarded the bid for the improvements to AC&E Advanced Contractors and Estimators in July.

The improvements included bank enhancements and the addition of a retaining wall to the pond, according to Geis.

He said water will still continue to rise up some in the pond.

Geis said the improvements were completed just over a week ago.
