The 2014 Taste of Clermont is just around the corner and will coincide this year with Batavia’s Bicentennial celebration.

The annual festival will be held Aug. 8-10 in the village and will feature a growing list of activities and entertainers as well as events to celebrate Batavia’s 200th anniversary.

Barb Haglage, with the Village Association of Batavia, said the Taste this year will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, which has never been done.

“That’s going to be huge,” Haglage said.

Haglage said they have incorporated historical entertainment and activities into the festival this year including historical home tours and living history demonstrations from the Grassy Run Historical Arts Committee.

Guests will also be able to learn about the village’s history with New Richmond.

“We are going to have a reconciliation with New Richmond over the feud for who was going to be the county seat,” Haglage said. “The mayors are going to reconcile.”

Haglage said Batavia Theatre Project will be performing at Sycamore Park and at the fire station in Batavia.

She said it is an exciting year to come enjoy the Taste of Clermont.

“The fact that in our 200 years here we’ve totally redone our town is exciting,” Haglage said.

As far as entertainment goes, Gary Farmer, entertainment organizer, said they have been able to step up the entertainment this year, thanks to the village of Batavia.

Farmer said performers scheduled for Taste of Clermont include Dallas Moore Band, Pistol Holler, Mojo Risin’, Noah Smith, and Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver to name a few.

Farmer said he enjoys adding to the entertainment list every year.

“I look for a bigger and better crowd every year,” Farmer said. “I hope the entertainment continues to be the best it can be and people really enjoy themselves when they come down.”

Taste of Clermont will have activities for children in the Kid Zone including a petting zoo, rides, and crafts provided by Home Depot.

Haglage said there will also be numerous shopping and food vendors at the event.

Food vendors this year include Pizza Tower, Sweet Maize Kettle Corn, Prime Time Catering, Jus Smokin Hillbilly BBQ, and more.

There will be a motorcycle show on Friday and a car show on Saturday.

Taste of Clermont will be held from 5-11 p.m. Aug. 8, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Aug. 9, and noon until 7 p.m. Aug. 10.
