There will soon be a new recreation trail in Milford for residents and guests to take advantage of.

Volunteers and city employees are working together to create a multi-use trail at the Jim Terrell Park that will accommodate hikers, runners and cyclists.

“We are hoping the trail will be a destination trail and a recreation amenity,” Susan Ellerhorst, assistant city manager for Milford, said.

Ellerhorst said Milford resident Bill Korke came up with the idea for the trail and several other volunteers, including trail builder Troy Warnken, joined in and are helping the city complete the project.

“Construction cost will be minimal,” Ellerhorst said. “Manual labor will be performed by volunteers.”

Ellerhorst said they have already begun building the trail on the 27-acre property.

“There are a few volunteers helping to take out some of the invasive plants and remove tree limbs,” Ellerhorst said. “We are trying to make it as safe and as user-friendly as possible.”

Ellerhorst said will be between a half mile and a mile long when it is finished.

She said they are hoping the trail is another popular amenity in the city and helps attract visitors.

“It will hopefully attract people to come off the bike trail and down into Milford,” Ellerhorst said.

Ellerhorst said in addition to the trail, Jim Terrell park also includes canoe access to the Little Miami River, grills, picnic tables and a shelter for sleeping.

She said camping permits for the park are available through the police department.
