Williamsburg students attend 2014 Boys State
Representing Williamsburg High School and American Legion Post #288 at the 2014 Buckeye Boys State were Joshua Wells and Nathan Web. Boys State is a hands on learning experience about the functions of local, county, and state governments.

Leadership skills and lifetime friendships are learned all while living in a college environment. Elections are held among the 1,200 delegates to fill positions from State Governor to City Councilmen.

Nathan Webb was elected as city auditor. He found that this position was definitely not to be taken lightly. The interaction with the city manager and other officials to assure the job was done correctly was an eye opening experience.

Other than the workings of government, Nathan came away from Boys State knowing that you don’t need a reward to know that you are succeeding and not all success is measured by an award, success can be measured by the friendships you have.

Josh Wells won the election for County Commissioner. He thought that the job would be boring and dull, but found that commissioners play a huge role in the lives of citizens.

He gained an understanding of how state, county, and city governments work together for our benefit. Josh believes that his confidence level has increased greatly and now knows that he can influence others in a positive way because of the leadership training he received at BBS.

“A week to shape a lifetime” is the motto of the Buckeye Boys State. Both young men agree that their week at BBS was unmatched by any other camp they have attended and was indeed a week to remember. They would encourage any young man who is selected to attend future Boys State programs to embrace the opportunity.

Bruce Brockman, BBS chairman for Williamsburg, would like to thank their sponsors American Legion Post #288, Jeff Wyler Automotives, Williamsburg Rotary, Clermont County Bar Association, and Croswell Bus Lines for their support.
