Dear Editor:

The Ohio State House is considering Bill 351 which will ban Ohio insurance policies from covering abortions, with no exceptions in the case of rape or when the pregnancy threatens the health of the mother.

It also bans randomly chosen forms of contraception which prevent implantation, such as the IUD and emergency contraception. Consider what this would mean to women who cannot tolerate the birth control pill or those who get pregnant through an act of violence. Women pay for their insurance, why shouldn’t it cover their needs?

This bill is the work of State House Representative John Becker of the 65th District. He does not understand how birth control works and will never have to deal with the results of his “personal opinion.”

I would invite him and his companions in the State House to turn their attention toward more pressing problems like job creation, the loss of funding for our local communities and public schools and the growing heroin problem in our state.

In November, we must elect their opponents, who will use our resources wisely and in the best interests of their constituents. For the women of Ohio, voting has never been more important.
