For 17 years LWVCC has honored volunteer leaders in our county as part of our organization focus on enhancing the quality of life through volunteer leadership.

In those years nearly 140 women have been honored for work they do in communities throughout the county and in areas as varied as health, education and politics.

At our Eighteenth Annual Suffragist Dinner, Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, the League will continue this work as part of our recognition of the original Suffragists and our own local League and community leader, Orpha Gatch.

Orpha Gerrans was a young woman in college as the final push for the right to vote for women was going on throughout the country.

She soon married John Gatch and moved to Milford, where she eagerly cast her first vote in 1920 and participated in all phases of public life here, including founding the League of Women Voters of Clermont County. We continue to honor her each year by naming one of the nominees our Orpha Gatch winner, only after showcasing the volunteer leadership of all nominees.

Please look around you. There are women throughout our county whose leadership in their volunteer work is making a difference in their community and organization, making things happen.

The only requirements are that the nominee be a female resident of Clermont County who takes the lead in her volunteer work.

The Nomination form is located on the League website: lwvclermont.com. Deadline for nominations is June 16, 2014. If you have questions regarding the nomination or the dinner, please contact Jane Sonenshein at (513) 831-1870.
