Batavia Township will host a clean up event for residents this summer.

The Township Clean Up Days will be held June 5-7 at the Batavia Township Community Center, located at 1535 Clough Pike, and the service department, located at 2401 Old State Route 32.

Batavia Administrator Rex Parsons said they changed the event from two times per year to one time per year last year.

“Previous years we’ve had two per year,” Parsons said about the event. “We noticed a decline in the fall. That is why we made it one event.”

Parsons said they also worked to make the one event larger, with more opportunities for residents.

“We expanded it to include no charge for tires,” Parsons said. “We take up to eight tires per resident free of charge. We also take up to five gallons of paint free of charge.”

Parsons said they will take appliances with freon as well as washers and dryers or other appliances.

He said they recycle the appliances instead of sending them to the landfill.

“We are much more into recycling than we ever were in the past,” Parsons said.

Parsons said they will also have an opportunity for residents to get rid of any papers or documents safely.

“On Saturday, June 7, here at the township, we will have free shredding from 9 a.m. to noon,” Parsons said.

He said the shredding will only be at the community center location.

Parsons said the items they will not take at the clean up event include hazardous materials and yard waste.

The event will be held from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. June 5-6 and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 7.
