Batavia Local School District Board of Education members recognized Michele Collins during their March 17 board meeting.

“Tonight we are honoring a very special lady,” Superintendent Jill Grubb said.

Grubb said Collins has given the district 40 years of service working as a bus driver and custodian at the district. Collins is currently head custodian at Batavia Elementary School.

Grubb said Collins is also a Batavia High School graduate.

Administrators and board members thanked Collins for all of her work at the district and presented her with a gift and a short celebration during the board meeting.

“This is just a small token of our appreciation,” Grubb said.

Collins said she has enjoyed working at the district because of the children.

“They make my day wonderful every morning I meet them,” Collins said. “They are just like family to me.”

Collins said it was special to be recognized by board members during the meeting.

“I guess they love me just like I love them,” Collins said. “We are a big family. We take care of each other.”
