Clermont County residents are invited to join the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Clermont County at a super hero themed kick-off celebration.

The kick-off party for the summer Clermont event will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the Union Township Civic Center in the Collegiate Room, 4350 Aicholtz Road, Union Township.

The Kick-Off event is a way for members of the community to learn more about Relay For Life of Clermont County and how to get involved.

Maureen Bedell, Relay For Life Specialist said,” “The Relay For Life of Clermont County is an excellent opportunity for the entire community to come together and enjoy family-friendly activities while celebrating the lives of all those who have been touched by cancer. In keeping with our super heroes theme, all survivors will be honored in a special way as the super heroes of our event. We hope to have as many survivors at our event as possible.”

The members of the event planning committee hope to raise $32,000 to fund research and to provide programs to assist patients and families who are dealing with issues related to cancer.

The 2014 Relay For Life of Clermont County is the signature fundraising community event that honors cancer survivors, current cancer patients and caregivers.

In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. The event features food, games and touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration.

At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors, as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.

The two-day event will be held on Saturday, June 21-22 from 2 – 8 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park, 906 Clough Pike, Union Township in Clermont County.

The Kick-Off event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
