Batavia Township Trustees authorized administrator Rex Parsons to begin discussions with the village of Batavia and Clermont County about road maintenance during a a special meeting Jan. 24.

Parsons said the discussion will be in regard to the maintenance of various roads located in the village of Batavia and Batavia Township.

Parsons said there are particular roads he wishes to discuss.

The decision to begin discussion between the township and county came after trustees met in executive session during the Jan. 24 session.

Previously, trustees have discussed the issues with the maintenance of roads that were annexed into the village of Batavia in 2012.

Batavia Village Mayor John Thebout said after the annexation, that parts of Bauer and Harold roads belong to the county, the township and the village.

“We feel we should only have to take care of what is in the village,” Thebout said.

Thebout said the village has been maintaining Bauer Road.

“We are working on an agreement with the county for the future,” Thebout said about Bauer Road maintenance.

“Harold Road is basically a township road,” Thebout said. “We are also trying to negotiate with the township.

Thebout said village officials are continuing to work with the county and township to determine what will be done.

“We are hoping the three municipalities, the county, the village and the township, can all three come up with an agreement that will satisfy all three municipalities,” Thebout said.
