The Village of Batavia will celebrate its 200th anniversary in August 2014. The major celebrations will be held the week of Aug. 3.

As part of the celebration, the village is holding a Batavia Bicentennial Poster Competition.

The deadline for entries in the competition has been extended to March 3. The village has received good response in of posters from students, but still hopes to receive more from upper grades and from adults.

Submissions may use any art medium, including paint, pencil, markers, colored pencils, crayons, digital, etc.

The entry size for paper submissions is 13″ x 20″. The digital entry size is 24″ x 36″. Color space should be RGB; JPEG 300 pixels per inch.

Posters must promote the Batavia Bicentennial, and the criteria for judging are originality of concept, design, appeal, technique, and craftsmanship.

The following information must be included or the entry will not be considered: the date of the celebration, August 3 through 10, 2014; the location at the courthouse square in Batavia; and the theme, the Batavia Bicentennial. Also include the planned attractions, the parade, fireworks, house tours, historic presentations, quilt boards, art, horse carriages, rides, food, music, drink, and antiques.

On the back of the poster, write your name, address, phone number, email address, and date you submitted the poster. Students should also identify school and grade.

Digital entries must be submitted on flash drives. In a separate text file, provide your name, address, phone number, email address, and date you submitted your poster. Students should also identify school and grade.

All work must be original. Copies of others’ works or copyrighted images owned by someone other than the poster creator are barred.

A panel of judges will chose winners. Their decision is final.
