Amelia village officials are working hard to complete a sidewalk along Amelia Olive-Branch Road this month, and they are a little closer thanks to a donation from a business owner located just outside the village.
Amelia Mayor Todd Hart said Frank White, the owner of White Brothers Plumbing, donated $2,000 to help with the sidewalk project.
Hart said thanks to White’s donation they are able to complete more of the project, which will take the sidewalk up to the Crossings of Amelia, a senior housing complex.
Amelia village council approved using Tax Increment Financing funds to complete part of the sidewalk along the road.
Hart also approached Batavia Township trustees about the project but he said they did not have funds in the budget this year for the sidewalk work.
White said he donated the money to support Mayor Hart and the positive things he is doing for the village.
“We made the donation to the sidewalks because of Todd’s hard work,” White said. “He is out there with mud up to his knees working. He is trying to advance the village.”
White said he heard Hart talk about completing a sidewalk along Amelia Olive-Branch Road.
He said he believes Hart is making good use of the funds in the village even during difficult economic times and wanted to help.
“Sidewalks are a great investment for the community,” White said. “We are just giving back to the community.”
White said his business is relatively close to the village and he has personally utilized sidewalks in the village before.
“It’s a major benefit to the community,” White said about having sidewalks available for residents.
Hart said he was surprised by the donation, and he thanked White Oct. 30.
