In an effort to recognize veterans for their service, Wm. Light Paving Company will be sponsoring Veterans Appreciation Day Oct. 12 to coincide with the Vietnam Traveling Wall that will be in Clermont County Oct. 9-13.

Sherry Light, with Wm. Light Paving, said her husband, Steve, came up with the idea to host the event because he wanted to thank and honor veterans.

Light said they thought it would nice to have an event while the traveling wall memorial was in the county.

“We wanted to have an appreciation day,” Light said. “We wanted to be able to host some veterans, have some food, music and raffles and run them up to the event and bring them back.”

Light said the event will begin at 8 a.m. and will include a flag raising, a 21 gun salute, live music, food, and door prizes.

Light said they will also be transporting veterans from the event to the memorial and back.

She said shuttles will be running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to the traveling wall. The event will end at 10 p.m.

“It’s going to be a fun event,” Light said.

Light said their business was started by a veteran and they have many veterans in their family.

“A lot of people don’t thank vets enough,” Light said. “We thought we would show appreciation.”

Veterans Appreciation Day will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2289 post located at 265 Foundry Avenue in Batavia.

The Vietnam Traveling Wall Memorial will be in the county Oct. 9-13 at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Union Township.
