Amelia Councilman Chuck Thacker announced during the July 23 meeting that he would be resigning from his seat on council.
Thacker said his family will be moving outside the village limits to Pierce Township, so he unfortunately will not be able to serve as an Amelia council member any longer.
He said the July 23 meeting will be his last official meeting.
“I wanted to thank everyone,” Thacker said during the meeting.
Thacker said he can’t express how grateful he is to have had the opportunity to be on council and serve the community.
Amelia Mayor Todd Hart presented Thacker with an engraved clock and thanked him for serving as council member in the village.
“Thanks for your support and service to the village,” Hart said.
Thacker was elected to serve on council in 2009. His four year term would have expired this year.
Council members will have 30 days to appoint a new council member to fill Thacker’s seat, according to section 731.43 of the Ohio Revised Code.
If the legislative authority fails to fill the vacancy in 30 days, the mayor has the responsibility to fill the vacancy by appointment.
