To commemorate Confederate General John Hunt Morgan’s 13-day raid of Ohio and the role of the Union pursuers in the historic clash 150 years ago this July, the Ohio Historical Society has established the John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail.
The trail is a 561 mile self-guided driving tour tracing Morgan’s route through 17 Ohio counties. The tour includes more than 600 directional signs leading travelers along the route and 56 interpretive signs presenting historical information and stories.
The Clermont County Civil War Commemoration Committee is sponsoring an educational bus tour of Morgan’s Trail through Clermont County from Miamiville, where Morgan entered the county to Williamsburg, on Sunday July 14, 2013.
Historian Rick Crawford will moderate the tour describing the events of the raid and other county historical stories.
The bus tour will depart Miamiville at 1 p.m. Before the bus tour departs, the two interpretive signs in Miamiville can be viewed. The bus will arrive in Williamsburg in time to attend the dedication and unveiling of the interpretive sign in the village.
Following the dedication the bus will proceed to a reception program at Harmony Hill where refreshments will be served. The Harmony Hill Association and Clermont County Historical Society’s museums will be open.
Following the reception, the bus will return to Miamiville by a different route over a trail that other Morgan’s raiders took.
The cost of the tour is $10 and is limited to the first 52 people who make reservations by calling Terri Daugherty at (513) 734-7049.

The tour bus can either be boarded in Miamville at Aim Mio parking lot at 6139 Second Street, Miamiville (not the parking lot on SR 126) at 1 p.m. or at the Fire Department parking lot at Main and Eight Street. in Williamsburg at 11:30 a.m.
