Clermont County Commissioners presented a certificate of recognition to the UC Clermont Cougars Baseball Team in honor of being the 2013 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national champion! Vice President of the Board of Clermont County Commissioners, David Uible, said, “The Commissioners rallied alongside the county to cheer on our local team, we’re very proud of them. Go Cougars!”

Interim Head Coach Jack Harbison, Athletic Director Brian Sullivan, Interim Assistant Coach J.C. Harbison, Dean Greg Sojka, Assistant Dean Marketing and Communications Mae Hanna, Robert Humpert (Turpin) and Cody Chase (Amelia) were all present today to accept the certificate in honor of their big win. Interim Head Coach Jack Harbison spoke at the podium, “We are a fairly young college baseball team, we finished fourth place the first time, second the next and this year we were fortunate enough to win. We are very proud to be undefeated here in our new field!”

This year the Cougars completed their sixth season and it was the third time the team participated in the USCAA series. Majority of the Cougars’ team players are from the Clermont County area and the MVP of the tournament, Pitcher Brian Beard, is a Batavia native. Harbison stated, “I am very proud of this team. We had four all-American’s this year and good senior leadership – they just never quit. At one point in the final game I called them together and told them they deserved to win and told them to relax and play baseball like they know how to play. We are losing only a few guys, so I expect to be back there next year.”
