Walter James Benjamin, 88, of Pt. Pleasant, died May 29.

Benjamin served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon discharge, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. After retirement, Benjamin traveled the world with his wife. He was involved with the Masonic Lodge in Moscow and earned passage into the Scottish Rite as a 32nd degree Mason. Benjamin was active in his church until his death.

He was preceded in death by siblings Clara Kabler, Irene Hayden, Bettie Jean Luken, and Louis Eugene Benjamin.

Benjamin is survived by wife Betty Lou Nelson Benjamin and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family and friends.

Visitation held 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 1 at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in New Richmond, followed by funeral at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Greenmound Cemetery.
