Milford designer Amy Kirchen was recognized at the May 21 city council meeting. Mayor Geoffrey Pittman presented Kirchen with a proclamation recognizing her for her business, the Amy Kirchen Boutique.

“Ms. Kirchen is now one of the most sought after designers in the Midwest, with a discrete clientele composed of celebrities as well as local and international members of the A-list,” Mayor Pittman said. “I, Geoff Pittman…do hereby congratulate and commend the Amy Kirchen Boutique for bringing art and fashion into our lives for two years now.”

Kirchen opened her business in 2011 and has quickly become a celebrated designer. She has already designed for contestants in the Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss Universe pageants, as well as for Spike TV host, Bronte Tagliani.

“It’s in my blood,” Kirchen said when asked why she went into the fashion business. “I’ve always aspired to be a designer.”

Kirchen plans to open stores in other cities and countries, beginning in Germany, where her husband was born. She still plans on keeping her main store in Milford.

“I will always have my flagship store here in Milford,” Kirchen said. “I love this city. The reason we decided to open up business here is because I think Milford has so much to offer … I couldn’t be any more proud to be in this city.”

Kirchen plans on converting her boutique in the next year to accommodate all her seamstresses and have them all working in her Milford store. This would be unique for fashion boutiques. Her store currently has three regular employees and staffs three to five interns per year.

The Amy Kirchen Boutique is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday.

The Amy Kirchen Boutique is located on Main Street in Milford.
