Lindsey McHenry of Clermont Northeastern High School has been honored as the May Student of the Month by the Batavia Rotary Club.
Many things were taken into consideration when choosing her for this award, including her academic record, school participation, and service to the community.
“Lindsey is a student who makes education happen for herself,” said John Eckert, CNE High School Principal. “She is a very aggressive student and knows what she wants out of life I am proud to announce that she is the CNE Class of 2013 Valedictorian.”
McHenry has taken multiple AP courses in the past and participated in post-secondary courses at UC Clermont for the past two years. She has been a member of the academic quiz team, yearbook committee and is a member of the National Honor Society.
In addition, she helped organize and serve in many projects with the CNE Leo Club, which is the high school equivalent of the Lions Club.
Although her classwork is very important to her, McHenry also finds time to volunteer in the community. She has been involved with Girl Scouts since second grade and participated in many community service projects over the years. She has also been a library volunteer at the Clermont County Public Library, Owensville Branch.
McHenry plans to attend Ohio State University upon graduation, and major in English. She hopes to go into the publishing field after college.
“Thank you for all you do for your school and community,” said Ed Nurre, Batavia Rotary Student of the Month committee chair. “Excellence is not an act, it is a habit. This is where you are.”
The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes one high school student from CNE Schools each month throughout the regular school year. Students are nominated for this award for their school work and service to their community in keeping with the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”
The Batavia Rotary Club is comprised of a diverse group of community-minded members that work together to address various community and international needs while promoting peace and understanding throughout the world.
Meetings are held every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Hawk Building on Taylor Road, Clermont County Airport. Prospective new members and visiting Rotarians are always welcome.
