The Ohio State University Extension Clermont County hosted the 19th Annual Southwest Ohio Perennial School April 11 at the Clermont County Fairground’s 4-H Hall.
The event, attended by 122 guests, centered on five educational presentations with a tradeshow featuring regional vendors and gardening organizations.
This year’s topics included “Culinary Bible Herbs” with Rita Heikenfeld, Cooking with Rita and Cincinnati Enquirer blogger; “Deerz” about wildlife management with Chris Daeger, Rowe Arboretum manager; “How to Build Your Perennial Palette (With Very Little Failure)” with Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ horticulturalist Scott Beuerlein; and two local Master Gardeners, Faye Mahaffey and Doreen Kelly, presenting topics on “Vertical Gardening” and “Lasagna Gardening,” respectively.
Thirteen vendors participated in the tradeshow: Clermont County Master Gardeners, Clermont Soil & Water Conservation District, B.C. Nursery, Log Cabin Herb Society, The Flower Bed, More Specialty Plants and Landscaping, Jaybird Farms, Herbs & Such, Denise’s Garden, Bethel Feed and Supply, Costco Wholesale and Ohio Valley Flower Farm.
The 20th Annual Southwest Ohio Perennial School is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2014.
OSUE Clermont is a non-formal education branch of OSU. The office merges needs of local citizens with OSU’s research through four focus areas: Family & Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources and Community Development.
