Just a few weeks after the annual Dancing with the Stars fund-raiser for the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, members of the adult services program at Clermont DD got to participate in their own Dancing with the Stars event.
The annual Dancing with our Stars event was held at the Wildey School in Owensville March 25, and five groups of individuals from the adult services program participated in their own Dancing with the Stars competition.
“We do this with our adult services program every year and it is always a big hit,” Lisa Davis, director of community relations for the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, said.
Davis said the idea to have a Dancing with our Stars event came about as members were volunteering in art class to make stars and other artwork for the Dancing with the Stars fund-raiser.
“We thought we could get them together to practice,” Davis said.
She said the individuals get to pick their own song and the supervisors help them practice dancing and select costumes for the big event.
Just like the fund-raiser, each couple or group gets to dance to their selected song in front of several friendly judges.
At the end of their dance they are critiqued, and once everyone has danced, the judges select a winner.
At the event March 25, participants danced to everything from rock music to The Hokey Pokey.
Participants at the event included David Mueller and Sherri Voyt, Dianne Dorton and Bob Weidle, Amie Jones and Greg Wood, Marty Raines and P.C. Osborne, and more.
After all of the couples and groups dance, the judges announced that the winners of the competition were Marty Raines and P.C. Osborne.
“I like it,” Raines said about dancing.
Osborne also said she enjoyed the event.
“It was fun,” Osborne said about participating.
The winners of the Dancing with the Stars fund-raiser, Lori Howell and Don Justice, also performed at the event while votes were being counted.
Howell and Justice said they enjoyed the experience and raising money for Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
