Jan Schoellman, a long-time precinct election official with the Clermont County Board of Elections, has received the Precinct Election Official Red Carpet Award from the office of the Ohio Secretary of State.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted presented the award to Schoellman at a ceremony Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Clermont County Board of Elections offices.

“Ohio’s poll workers serve on the front lines of our democratic process and it is important that we have the best people in those roles,” Secretary Husted said. “Jan Schoellman has proven herself to be a model poll worker and I appreciate her dedication to our elections process.”

Schoellman has been working at the polls in Clermont County for 14 years, and has worked 25 consecutive elections. She recently retired from teaching at the Goshen Local School District, where she taught seventh and eighth grade social studies.

Schoellman was nominated for the award by Clermont County Board of Elections Directory Judy Miller.

Miller said that Schoellman is a role model for other PEOs. Miller cited her outstanding service and leadership as a PEO, and her involvement in the community.

“She is a proven leader,” Miller said. “This is exemplified by the fact that other PEOs feel comfortable to go to her for assistance or assurance when questions or problems arise at the polls. She is always willing to lend a helping hand to her fellow PEOs.”

Miller listed many of Schoellman’s community activities, including her involvement with the fair board, the retired teachers association, and Clermont County Farm Bureau.

Secretary Husted also noted Schoellman’s service beyond the board of elections office.

“Thank you for your public service all around, because that makes for a better, stronger community and state,” Husted said. “It’s one of the great things that you have done.”

Schoellman was one of only two precinct election officials in the state to be recognized.

Secretary Husted also recognized Clermont County PEOs Ruth Ann Werner and Bonnie Carlier during Tuesday’s ceremony. Werner has served for 24 and one half years as the Republican PEO Supervisor. Carlier was honored for her 19 years of service to the board of elections as Democratic PEO Supervisor.
