Clermont County commissioners proclaimed Nov. 4-10 as Veterans’ Awareness Week at their Oct. 31 meeting and encouraged citizens to recognize veterans at ceremonies throughout the county.
Commissioners presented a proclamation to Howard Daugherty, executive director of the Clermont County Veterans’ Service Commission, with several veterans also in attendance.
“We call citizens of Clermont County to observe this day,” Commissioner David Uible read from the proclamation. “We urge all citizens to recognize the valor and sacrifice of all veterans through ceremonies and prayer.”
Daugherty thanked commissioners and discussed several events the commission would be participating in on Veterans Day.
Daugherty said there will be a Veterans’ Day Parade in Batavia Nov. 11 beginning at 2 p.m.
According to a release from the commission, participants will begin lining up at the Batavia Post Office at 1 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the parade including veterans and soldiers who have recently returned from deployment.
The parade will run along Main Street in Batavia and Danny Bare, former executive director of the Clermont County Veterans’ Service Commission, was selected to be the grand marshal.
Bare served as executive director of the commission for more than five years. He is a Vietnam War veteran and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Army Commendation for Valor for his service.
Bare also served as a Batavia Township trustee, director of the board of elections and a Municipal Court bailiff.
“Danny was excited about being named parade grand marshal,” Andrea Bryant, office administrator of the Veterans’ Service Commission, said. “He couldn’t wait to have his grandkids tag along.”

In Bethel, Bick Primary School will have a Veterans Day assembly at 10 a.m. Nov. 9.
New Richmond schools and the village of New Richmond will also be hosting several Veterans Day ceremonies and events.
Ralph Shepherd, a veteran and event organizer in the village, said Veterans Day ceremonies and breakfasts will be held throughout the week leading up to Veterans Day.
He said New Richmond Middle School will have a program for veterans at 9 a.m. Nov. 7.
The elementary schools will hosts breakfasts for veterans and their families. Monroe Elementary will have a breakfast Nov. 8, Locust Corner Elementary will have a breakfast Nov. 9 and New Richmond Elementary will have a breakfast Nov. 12. All breakfasts will begin at 8 a.m.
“They always have a nice program,” Shepherd said about the breakfasts.
Shepherd said there will also be a Veterans Day ceremony at the memorial in New Richmond at 5 p.m. Nov. 11.
