Barbara Wallace, Director of Service Learning, right, and Ruchi Bawa, second from right, Summer Associate Vista & Garden Sustainability Coordinator discusses the benefits of the garden with volunteers from Landmark Baptist Church.
The final harvest total for UC Clermont’s Community Garden was 1460 pounds – all donated to local churches, community shelters and food pantries.

This brings the three-year Community Garden total to 3841 pounds of food – grown and donated – through the effort of students, community volunteers, faculty and staff.

“Each year, the community garden makes more of an impact on not only the community but also on faculty and students. It is a phenomenal ongoing college project because it involves so many service learning classes and brings the college together each year,” said Director Barbara Wallace, College Success Program and Service Learning.

“At our pantries we usually get canned items all the time-this fruit and vegetable donation is the first we’ve seen all week/month and we’re so grateful-it will be gone within the hour!”-YWCA pantry.

“We feel so blessed to have you as our community partners, we serve hundreds of families and with every donation are able to serve so many more. We hope this program continues and that the college sees how grateful we are for these donations!”-Mercy Works

“During the summer with storms blowing our shed down the field, breaking our electric fence, and animals feasting on our produce like a small salad, we still got the job done and with the passion and commitment to helping those less fortunate! Thanks to all of those who pulled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty,” said Ruchi Bawa, Summer Associate Vista and Garden Sustainability Coordinator.
