Traffic was backed up for miles after a fatal accident occurred on state Route 32 Oct. 2, closing the westbound lane for several hours.

Union Township Police Lieutenant Scott Gaviglia said the crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. when Michael Snodgrass, 37, of Blanchester, driving an S-10 Chevrolet pickup truck, collided with Russell Dunham, 40, of Bethel, operating a GMC straight truck.

Snodgrass was traveling west on SR 32 and collided with Dunham, who was stopped for traffic near the Old SR 74 intersection.

Snodgrass was killed as a result of the collision. Dunham was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation.

Gaviglia said Route 32 was closed from approximately 7-9 a.m. in order to investigate and clean up after the accident.

Gaviglia said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but they are waiting for results from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.

He said the crash remains under investigation by Union Township police, but they are primarily waiting for toxicology results.

“For a fatal crash there was really not a lot to investigate,” Gaviglia said about the collision.
