Clermont County Law Library celebrated 75 years of operation May 24, and employees showcased the transformation of the library through the years.

“It opened in 1937,” Carol Suhre, director of the law library, said. “It is open to the public, all elected officials and all bar association members.”

Suhre, who has worked at the library for 29 years, said the library has changed and advanced over the years.

“It used to be everything was paper and there were multiple filing cabinets,” Suhre said about previous court records. “Now everything is digital.”

Suhre said they have incorporated advanced technology and eliminated some of the paper at the library over the years, and they provide a variety of services to the public.

“We try to keep it open to everyone,” Suhre said. “Whether you’re a public person looking for Ohio law or a seasoned lawyer.”

Suhre said the library provides access to the Ohio Revised Code, previous cases in Ohio, access to Lois Law, an online legal research system, as well as thousands of books.

Suhre said attorneys and interns will use the library to do research for cases and will use the conference room hold meetings.

She said law students and local residents also use the library to do research for classes and increase their law knowledge.

“Everything is not free on the internet and you don’t know the origin,” Suhre said about the benefit of having the library in the community.

Many judges, attorneys and government officials stopped by the 75th anniversary celebration at the library May 24 to take a look at the history of the library, see what the library has to offer and thank the librarians.

“I like that it has been ever evolving,” Kim Duncan, systems librarian, said about the library. “It started with just books and now technology.”

Duncan who has worked at the library for 24 years, said 75 years is a milestone for the library but the celebration has also been beneficial in other ways.

“Celebrating it shows everyone the value,” Duncan said about the library. “People don’t know it is available.”

The Clermont County Law Library is located in the Clermont County Court of Common Pleas at 270 East Main Street in Batavia and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
