Batavia Rotary to honor one of its own

The Batavia Rotary Club is making plans for its annual golf outing on June 20, but this year’s event is bittersweet.

The Batavia Rotary “Jim Bushman Memorial Golf Outing” will be a tribute to dear friend and fellow Rotarian Jim Bushman, the Batavia Township Trustee-elect who tragically lost his life on Nov. 21 when an out-of-control car stuck him in his driveway.

“Our community lost a man of unique integrity, character and service when Jim Bushman passed away,” said Brandon Little, Pastor of Landmark Ministries and chair of the 2012 Golf Outing Committee. “He was selfless, caring and made everyone feel like a treasured friend, even if it was the first time you had met.”

Bushman was a long-time member of the Batavia Rotary Club who exemplified the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.” Naming the golf outing on his behalf is a tribute to

Bushman’s dedication to community service.

Sponsored by the Sardinia Concrete Company, the outing takes place on June 20 and will be held at Elks Run Golf Club on Elklick Road in Batavia Township. Golfers will be treated to lunch at eleven o’clock that morning, followed by a Shot Gun Start at noon with awards and raffle drawings at dinner.

Proceeds of the outing will go to local charitable organizations. Those who have received donations in the past include the Jim Sauls Homeless Shelter, Boys and Girls Clubs of Clermont County, Clermont Military Memorial, local Veterans’ groups, the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter, and the Boy Scouts of America. As in previous years, these donations will be presented during dinner which immediately follows the golf outing.

Registrations for foursomes and hole sponsorships are currently being accepted, as well as large items for the raffle that takes place on the day of the event.
