Recount results for the Democratic Second Congressional District US Representative and Republican 14th District State Senate primaries are certified after several counties completed recounts last week.

After the recount, William Smith remained the winner of the Democratic Second Congressional District primary with 60 votes more than David Krikorian, and Rep. Joe Uecker remained the winner for the Republican 14th District Senate primary with 182 votes more than Paul Hall.

Clermont County Board of Election members met April 6 to certify recounts for the Democratic Second Congressional District US Representative and Republican 14th Ohio Senatorial District primaries.

Clermont was one of five counties in the 14th district to have a recount for the state senate primary and was one of eight in the second congressional district to have a recount for the second congressional district primary.

In Clermont County, numbers after the recount changed slightly for the two closest candidates in the Republican State Senate 14th District primary, with Paul Hall losing one vote and Joe Uecker gaining one vote. After the recount Joe Uecker had 14,791 votes and Paul Hall had 8,142 votes.

Clermont County Board of Elections Director Judy Miller said they discovered that the error occurred in Williamsburg Township B Precinct, where there were difficulties with a jam in the ballot counting machine.

Miller said the number of ballots in the precinct remained the same, however the number of votes changed.

“The only thing I can think of is that the ballot had been counted twice and there were two stuck at the same time,” Miller said. “The machine re-read the top one and Hall got an extra vote and Uecker’s didn’t get counted.”

Results after the recount in Clermont County remained the same for the two closest candidates for the Democratic Second Congressional District, William Smith and David Krikorian. Smith had 1,616 total votes while Krikorian had 1,156 total votes.

“We had absolutely no change,” Miller said. “We had no problems with any of those.”

Miller said they began the recount April 2 and it took them about two days to finish the recount for the two primaries. The board certified the recount results April 6.

Other counties included in the recount for the Republican State Senate 14th District primary included Adams, Brown, Lawrence and Scioto counties.

Aside from Clermont County, the only other county that had a change in results was Brown County where Hall lost one vote after the recount. Hall received a total of 3,974 votes in Brown County and Uecker received 877 votes.

Before the recount Hall had 17,733 total votes in the district and Uecker had 17,912 votes. After the recount Hall had 17,731 votes and Uecker had 17,913 votes.

Other counties included in the recount for the Democratic Second Congressional District US Representative primary included Adams, Brown, Hamilton, Highland, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.

Results remained the same in all the counties except Brown County where Smith lost two votes after the recount, changing his total from 799 votes to 797 votes, and in Hamilton county where Krikorian gained two votes and Smith gained three votes changing the total from 4,723 to 4,725 for Krikorian and from 4,114 to 4,117 for Smith.

Before the recount, Krikorian had 10,114 votes and Smith had 10,175 votes in the district, and after the recount, Krikorian had 10,116 votes and Smith had 10,176 votes.
