The Goshen boys’ bowling team in 8-7 on the season.

As the Goshen bowling teams prepare to wrap up their regular season, head coach Shirley Reynolds is looking forward to a strong performance in the post-season.

“I would like to see [both teams] do really well in sectionals and advance to the regionals,” Reynolds said. “I would love to get a couple of them to bowl well and get to state. It’s a very good experience for anyone.”

The Goshen girls’ bowling team in 5-9 on the season.

Reynolds is the first-year coach of the Warriors, but perhaps it was always the logical next step.

“I have worked in the bowling centers for 34 years and my passion has always been kids,” Reynolds explained. “I work in the bowling center down the street and they asked me if would like to fill the position.”

Asked if she’s enjoyed her new job, Reynolds replied quickly, “oh yes.”

Reynolds coaches both the boys’ and girls’ teams. The boys have an 8-7 record and the girls have a 5-9 record.

On the boys team, some of the year’s highlights are Lucky Singleton bowling a 251 game, Ryan Hicks bowling a 425 series for two games, Ryan Saylor bowling a 382 series.

Reynolds notes that Tanner Stewart and Christophan Quan are probably the two most improved bowlers on the team.

For the girls’ side, Alisha Bennett has rolled a 194 game, Rian Adams has a 178 high game and Hanna Schafer has a 176 high game.

For the most improved on the girls’ team, Reynolds said that Yanisa Robbins would probably deserve the honor, but Rian Adams is also very important to their team.

The bowling matches are quite enjoyable to attend and very fast-paced. The matches consist of two regular games of bowling by each member of the team, followed by four Baker games in which the five bowlers rotate during a 10-frame game. The final score is the sum of the 10 individual games, plus the four Baker games total.

For sectionals, the teams will compete for a spot in regionals, however if the team does not qualify, individuals can advance by being among the high-scoring individuals not on advancing teams.

The sectional tournament begins on February 11 at Colerain Bowl and Crossgate Lanes.
