NOTICE OF FILING OF AMENDMENT
TO A FEDERAL
HYDROELECTRIC
PROJECT LICENSE
The City of Hamilton, Ohio and American Municipal Power (“Applicants”), co-licensees of the Meldahl Hydroelectric Project, FERC Project Number 12667, hereby notify resource agencies, Native American Indian tribes and members of the public that on November 30, 2011 they submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) an application to amend the transmission route contained in the existing federal license (“Amendment”). The Amendment consists of the installation of a new 138 kV overhead transmission line and the construction of a substation to support the transmission of electricity generated at the Meldahl hydroelectric power plant currently under construction at the Meldahl Locks and Dam (“Meldahl Plant”) located at Ohio River Mile 436.2. The powerhouse for the Meldahl Plant is located in Bracken County, Kentucky.
The Amendment includes constructing an electric transmission line from the Project, across the Ohio River just upstream of the existing Meldahl Locks and Dam at Ohio River Mile 436.2, to an existing 345 kV Zimmer-Spurlock transmission line in Clermont County, Ohio, inland from the Ohio-side landing of the river crossing. The Amendment also consists of constructing a substation to interconnect the new 138 kV transmission line with the existing 345 kV Zimmer-Spurlock transmission line. The transmission line and substation are necessary to step-up and tie-in electric power generation from the project into the transmission grid via the Spurlock transmission line. As currently proposed, the approximately 2.5 mile transmission line will be routed across the Ohio River and through Franklin and Washington Townships with an interconnection at the new substation. The transmission route travels primarily through non-forested land and directly north from the Meldahl Plant to the interconnection.
The Amendment is available for viewing and printing by accessing FERC’s electronic library at http://elibrary.ferc.gov/idmws/docket_search.asp (under FERC Docket Number P-12667). The Amendment is also available for viewing and reproduction at the following locations:
