Western Brown 9

The Wildcats continued pouring it on the opposition as ‘Burg stunned visiting Western Brown 13-9 in a non-division game of the Southern Buckeye Conference.

Senior tight end Anthony Young registered a touchdown in the second stanza to begin the scoring on a 45-yard pass play from quarterback Jake Edmisten. Kendal Young split the uprights for the successful conversion boot and a 7-0 halftime advantage. The Broncos tied the score in the third period at 7-both. Then ‘Burg tallied what proved to be the game-winning TD on another Edmisten to Young pass play, this one 18-yards.

“We’re very proud of our boys,” said ‘Burg assistant head coach Scott Lefker. “I’m very glad the seniors won their senior night game. This was a team effort. We played quite a few underclassmen, three sophomores and a freshman. Running back Jake Clowerey carried he ball 23 times for 83 yards, Young shagged two Edmisten tosses for 63 yards.

The co-head coach singled out defensive leaders noseguard/linebacker Jordan Wright with 17 tackles, cornerback Dakota Doss and defensive end Jacob Reed with 11 tackles each, and linebacker Anthony Young, cornerback Brandon Ilg, and linebacker Mason Hall intercepted passes.

“Beating Western Brown was awesome, a division five school beating a division two school,” Lefker said.

Williamsburg concluded a successful campaign with an overall record of 7-3.

Amelia 21
Western Hills 18

Amelia’s seniors enjoyed a happy final home game by surprising Western Hills’ Mustangs 21-18. This was a non-conference confrontation.

The Barons spotted their guests a 6-0 first quarter lead, but the Blue and White took over with leads of 7-6 and 14-12 after the next two intermissions. Crossing the goal line for the Clermont countians were wide receiver Dominic Garcia on a five-yard toss from quarterback Gabe Weaver. Weaver hit paydirt on his own on a one-yard dive, and running back Cameron Wisby scored the winning TD on a nine-year dash. Josh Brennan kicked all three extra points.

Weaver turned in a good performance of passing. Wisby caught seven for 84 yards, end Aaron Robinson five for 63, Garcia two for 32, and back Mike Shibeley one for 21. Defensively, end T. J. Reed and lineman Ian Stewart intercepted passes and lineman Adam Hays and linebacker Layton Griefenstine made nine and seven tackles, respectively, as Amelia limited West Hi to 179 yards while piling up 301 yard themselves.

Amelia called it a year with a 5-5 record.

New Richmond 68
Bethel-Tate 14

The Lions really roared at their senior night game with quarter scores of 13-0, 33-0, 42-0, and 68-14. This was a Southern Buckeye game.

Running back Nick Hill scored touchdowns on runs of 30, two, and 14 yards, fullback Jay Glueck on a 14-yard run, running back Will Hayward on a 10-yard run, and running back Danny Scholz on runs of 52 and 87 yards and he recovered a fumble in the end zone.

The 87-yard Danny Scholz TD romp was a Scholz Family affair, junior center Kevin Scholz, hiked the ball to freshman quarterback Eric Scholz, who handed the ball to big brother Danny. Tyler Loyd kicked all the extra points.

Said their dad, Dan Scholz, “I never expected a run that far. It was just a fun family thing.

“Our kids worked hard and with great energy. They did a fantastic job. Our defense as a whole played really hard.”

Scoring touchdowns for the Tigers was wide receiver Matt Small on seven-yard and four-yard tosses from quarterback Layne Cherry. Jacob Dickhaus kicked both extra points.

New Richmond concluded the campaign with an 8-2 mark and Bethel-Tate was 0-10.

Winton Woods 35
Glen Este 21

The host Warriors had to play very tough throughout this Fort Ancient Valley Conference non-division duel to finally defeat the never-say-die Trojans 35-21.

Following a scoreless first quarter, and a 7-both first half, Winton Woods only dominated the third quarter to achieve the very hard-earned victory.

The quarter scores were 0-0, 7-7, and 28-14. Trevor Buckman tallied the first Trojan touchdown hitting paydirt from one yard out and senior Steve Vetter kicked the extra point. Senior fullback Drew Byrd drew first blood in the second half for Glen Este on his one-yard plunge and again Vetter converted the kick for the extra point. In the final stanza, speedster running back Alec Scardina out ran the enemy 34 yards for the final six-pointer for the Purple and White. As always, Vetter was accurate on the conversion kick. Scardina rushed 23 times for a 134 yard total and returned a kickoff for 43 yards and sophomore running back Jordan Harris carried the ball four times for 52 yards (a very impressive 13 yards per carry). Sophomore Tyler Burdick made just one punt for the Clermont countians, but it was for the great distance of 51 yards.

Glen Este finished the season with an overall mark of 4-6.

Greenville 34
Goshen 28

The Warriors made their Greenville guests work extremely had before they were able to return home with a 34-28 non-league triumph.

The Green Wave eked out 7-6 and 21-20 advantages after the first two intermissions. The Clermont countians fought back and knotted the score at 28-both entering the last 12 minutes of regulation playing time before the visitors managed to nip Red and Gray. Junior halfback Marcus Casey tallied twice for Goshen on four and six-yard sprints. A couple of additional Warriors also crossed the goal line – junior running back Steve Morris on a one-yard dive, senior running back Chaz Gresham from one-yard away. Casey successfully rushed twice for four points after touchdowns in this non-conference duel.

Goshen called it a season with a record of 3-7.

Blanchester 35
CNE 14

The Rockets gave their guests a very tough way to go in the first half of their Senior Night game, but Blanchester’s Wildcats won out 35-14. This was a non-division confrontation of the Southern Buckeye Conference. The Blue and Gold scored one touchdown apiece in the first two quarters. Dallas Miracle, junior running back, registered the first six-pointer on a long run and Derick Schmidt, junior quarterback added the second TD on yet another run. Senior Taylor Faecher successfully split the uprights for both points after touchdown.

Northeastern finished the season with an overall record of 2-8.

Loveland 55
Milford 0

The hapless Milford squad toughened up in the second half, but it was too late as the visiting Tigers racked up quarter leads of 27-0, 41-0, and 48-0.

Junior quarterback Cy Overback completed nine passes for the Red and White for a total of 81 yards to pace the Eagle offense. Senior wide receiver Brandon O’Toole caught four of the passes for 59 yards.

Ben Hittner recovered a Loveland fumble to spearhead the Milford defense.

Milford wrapped things up with a 2-8 overall record.
