Pete Winegardner, recent Glen Este High School graduate has signed a college letter-of-intent with Miami of Ohio University – Hamilton to continue his education and his career in baseball loaning his talent to the Harriers.

He plans to major in criminal justice.

“I chose Miami-Hamilton because it is good academically and I like the guys who will be my teammates and my summer baseball coach Steve Adams coaches there. Some of my high school teammates will be going there, too,” he said.

As a Trojan he earned three varsity baseball letters during his prep four-year career in which he was a pitching standout throughout.

A couple of baseball games from his junior year are the most memorable to him of his high school diamond days.

“My first complete game came against Anderson. I got 12 strikeouts that game. . . I pitched a pretty decent game against St. Xavier, too.”

“My parents (Bill and Kate Winegardner) have stuck with me through everything I have ever done,” said a grateful son. . . (Glen Este head baseball) coach (Mike) Hatfield was my favorite coach. He is like a second dad to me. . . (summer baseball coach and GEHS varsity assistant) Bill Boston helped me get into college. . . (teammate and fellow pitcher) Chris Linneman helped me with my school grades. He’s going to Miami – Hamilton with me.”
