Roenick Whitney signs his college letter-of-intent to Wilmington College witnessed by his parents Dan and Mary Whitney.
Roenick Whitney, Goshen High School recent graduate, has signed a college letter-of-intent to Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio, where he will continue his education and athletic career.

Sports management will be his major course of study and he will be playing baseball for the Quakers.

“I chose Wilmington because its close to home and it is a good school academically and I’ll get the opportunity to keep playing baseball,” he said.

In the uniforms of the Red and Gray he lettered in baseball three years and one in golf. He was a Southern Buckeye Conference American Division all-star on the diamond.

He served as a senior mentor when not competing in sports.

Several big moments standout in his memories of his stellar prep athletic days.

“I’ll never forget the comeback we made against Indian Hill (baseball) in the last inning. We hit three straight home runs to beat them,” said Whitney. “This year against Western Brown (baseball) I went three for three.”

The standout student/athlete pointed out people who have been especially important and helpful to him.

“My mom and dad (Mary and Dan Whitney) supported me through everything. They always backed me. . . (Goshen assistant baseball) coach (Mike) Huesman helped me stay motivated. He pushed me to my full potential. . . (Goshen head baseball) coach (Mark) Reed pushed the entire team all the time. He is a real good coach. . . (Goshen) coach (Mark) Penix coached me all four years of high school.”
