Batavia Township residents will be able to participate in the first township-wide yard sale later this summer, and shoppers will have a helpful tool available before they venture out on the streets.

The yard sale will be held Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sept. 11 from 12 – 5 p.m., and residents will have an opportunity to preview where participating sellers will be and what they will be selling.

“We’re hoping that it’s going to be a big event,” Rex Parsons, administrator, said.

Township trustees have been looking at having a yard sale for several months now. Rather than just letting residents drive around searching for what they want, trustees decided to create a database of vendor information to help organize the sale.

“To get to all the places, or find out where they are in a day in a half is tough,” Parsons said.

The database will help, and it will be viewable in the form of a map online prior to the sale. The map, similar to Google Maps, will show the location of a house participating in the sale, as well as a blurb about what the seller has available at their house.

“You’ll pull up a map and there will be push pins,” Parsons said about how the database will work.

Parsons said residents will be able to view the details of each location by placing the mouse over the push pins. The details blurb will provide the dates the resident will be participating in the sale as well.

Township trustees will also be allowing residents to register for a space in the parking lot of their office, 1535 Clough Pike. The space is available for residents who do not want to sell at their home, or groups that want to sell items to raise funds.

Because the database has to be created, Parsons said residents interested in participating in the yard sale should register in advance.

“We’re hoping that people are able to participate, go to the map and find what they want,” Parsons said.

Residents can register by contacting the township office at (513) 732-3888 or by emailing them to rparsons@bataviatownship.org. Yard sale maps will be available at www.bataviatownship.org or at the trustee’s office prior to the sale.
