Archery, learning how to properly shoot an arrow and with good or respectable accuracy, is taught at the Eastern Hills Rod, Gun, and Conservation Club Workshop.
The Eighth Annual Sporting Women Educational Workshop will take place July 16 . The day will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until about 6 p.m.

The event will be held on the site of the Eastern Hills Rod, Gun, and Conservation Club , the sports person organization is hosting the event. It is located at 5595 Anstaett Rd., just north of Owensville off state Route 132.

More than 700 women and 150 volunteers and instructors have participated in the annually much-anticipated workshop. Many women return each summer to take part in the many events offered to learn new outdoor athletic activities.

Officials from the Eastern Hills Rod, Gun, and Conservation Club released an official statement that says, “The Sporting Women is intended to introduce women to outdoor activities they may not normally have an opportunity to experience. Women can try their hand at .22 rifle, handguns, trap shooting, archery, fly fishing, and kayaking. There’s something for everyone to enjoy with additional options like outdoor photography, Dutch Oven cooking, bird watching, golf, soap making, or self defense.

In 2008 the Sporting Women workshop began a new direction when the focus evolved into ‘Sporting Women Helping Women.’ In addition to outdoors education, the workshop also is a means to provide assistance to non-profit organizations that are dedicated to women by raising funds through a silent auction. The 2011 silent auction proceeds will be dedicated to support the widows of World War II veterans through the Clermont County Veteran’s Service Commission.

Participants of the Sporting Women Workshop have the opportunity to choose four different classes from the large total of 25 classes offered.

The classes offered are .22 Rifle, Archery, Zumball, Advanced Rifle, Advanced Archery, kayaking/canoeing, Dutch Oven cooking, Hiking/Backpacking, Outdoor Photography, Fly fishing, Outdoor Yoga, All-Terrain Vehicles Outdoors, Gold Panning, Horsemanship, Outdoor Survival, Golf, Self Defense, Soap Making, Handguns, Bird Watching, Guitar, Gun Care Ownership, Trap Shooting, Jewelry Making, and Rock Climbing.

Cyn Macke from Moscow, Washington Township, Clermont County, will be returning this month for the sixth time. She is the director of member services of the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce.

“The varsity of activities I got to choose from keeps me coming back every year. I just love learning from the new opportunities of activities offered. Some of the activities are for the active individual and some are for those who are not so adventurous. There is something being offered, I think, for everyone.”

She pointed out one of the most fun activities in which she has participated through the years is “target shooting with a gun. I learned I actually was a pretty good shot. . .

“I come back every year for the opportunity to learn some new things along with a lot of nice people and the volunteer/instructors are very nice, too.”

Said George Clark, an officer of the Eastern Hills Rod, Gun, and Conservation Club, and an organizer of the event, “It’s a lot of fun. Some of the women come back every year. They all seem to be having a blast.”

The cost of the event peer individual is $40 which includes a light breakfast, lunch, and all the materials needed.
