New Richmond High School recently honored four of its all-time sports greats at its annual induction ceremony and banquet that took place at the high school.

Matt Godsey (class of 2001) was a four-year letterman in track and field and three-year letterman in football and basketball. He was a Southern Buckeye Conference (SBC) all-star on the gridiron and track. In football, he was all-state Division II (special mention), all-district, and all-city. He was also singled out by Sprint Factory magazine as a Player to Watch. He owns Lion records with most interceptions in a season (nine), longest pass interception return (96 yards), and tied for most pass thefts in a single game (three). He was also praised for being a superb leader and role model.

Greg Hawkins (class of i979) earned nine letters with four in baseball, three in football, and two in basketball. He was the Lions’ captain in each sport. He was a Clermont County League (CCL) all-star on the diamond and gridiron. After graduation from Wright State University he returned to NRHS where he has been a successful coach in football, baseball, and junior high school wrestling earning several SBC Coach of the Year selections.

The most recently inducted members into the New Richmond High School Athletic Hall of Fame were joined and welcomed by previous inductees at the 2011 induction ceremonies. Brian McMonigle (class of 1998) lettered in football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was a SBC all-star in basketball and baseball and was All-Ohio (third team) on the diamond. On the hardwood he was the Lions’ most valuable player and earned the prestigious John Frey Award and was the SBC Player of the Year. He was a McDonald’s All-American finalist. As a senior he led Greater Cincinnati in scoring (26.6 points per game average), field goal percentage (66.2%) and owns school records for most rebounds in a game (29) and is among the top four in career scoring (more than 1,000 points).

Lisa Taylor (class of 1985) lettered in soccer, basketball, and track and field. She was a CCL all-star in basketball and track and the Lions’ MVP in track and field. Her time of 1:00.01 in the 400-meters is still a CCL/SBC record. Other honors include receiving recognition as the U. S. Army Reserve National Student-Athlete Award and Presidential Academic Physical Fitness Award.
