Students from the Grant Career Center Chapter of SkillsUSA brought back eight state-qualifying medals from the South Central Regional Skill Championships held in early March at the Buckeye Hills Career Center, Columbus State Community College, and the Columbus Sheet Metal Workers Local #24 Apprenticeship Training Hall.

Students bringing back first place gold medals for their events include Sarah Eubanks, Basic Health Care Skills, (Bethel-Tate); Melanie Jenkins, Job Interview, (Williamsburg); Cody Morehouse, Carpentry, (Bethel-Tate); Max Marlow, Automotive Refinishing, (Bethel-Tate); and Dennis Sandker, Related Technical Math, (Bethel-Tate).

Silver Medal winners include Mariah Conger, Medical Math, (Felicity-Franklin); Amanda Gettes, Medical Terminology, (Bethel-Tate); and Chris Taylor, First Aid and CPR, (Bethel-Tate).

All students winning gold, silver, or bronze medals have the opportunity to represent Grant Career Center at the state level competition in late April.

Other students competing in events at the regional level include: Tom Brunton, Technical Drafting, (Felicity-Franklin); Kayla Dryden, Nurse Assisting, (Bethel-Tate); DeeAnna Dameron, Cosmetology, (Bethel-Tate); Zach Neal, Welding, (New Richmond); Alex Forsee, Automotive Service, (New Richmond); and Sarah Foster, Nail Care, (Bethel-Tate).

The Allied Health Science program also fielded a Health Knowledge Bowl Team which included Kara Solomon (New Richmond), Chris Paul and Shane Kabler, (Felicity-Franklin), and Chelsea Pennington (Bethel-Tate). Assisting in the Nail Care demonstration was Sarah Moore, (Bethel-Tate); and assisting as a Health Knowledge Bowl judge was Catherine Bennett, (New Richmond).

The SkillsUSA program is a youth organization for students in the Allied Health Science, Auto Collision, Automotive Service Technology, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Engineering Design, and Metal Fabrication programs at Grant.

SkillsUSA helps students develop leadership skills, social skills and personal development through skill competition and club activities.
